Boundaries

The next step is setting boundaries. Boundaries aren’t taught in school. This is something we learn from our families, mentors and peers. When we are young we have no control, but as an adult we can choose what we want to do.
There are physical and emotional boundaries. We can see physical boundaries when someone touches us or is standing close to us and it either feels comfortable or uncomfortable. Emotional boundaries are harder to see. But we still notice whether the interaction is comfortable or not.
Physical, sexual and emotional abuse teaches us that we are not allowed to have physical, sexual or emotional boundaries.
Learning how to set good boundaries is what keeps us physically and emotionally safe.
